Our list of universal books

There are many lists of the type "50, 100 or 1000 books you have to read before you die." According to the limit imposed by the title, the list may be more or less long, but in all cases, in our opinion, they are characterized by being too focused on American or English authors and works, leaving aside great works written in Spanish, French or Italian. That is why we have decided to draw up our own list, with the books we consider to be of compulsory reading.

We have not applied a single criterion: some are chosen for their quality or originality, others for the beauty of history, because they presented us to unforgettable characters, or because they made us spend very good times. Whenever possible, we recommend reading these works in their original language. Although there are excellent translations, some nuance or author's resource is always lost.

In some cases, we have included only one of the works of one author, to be represented, but we would add several more. This is the case with Austen, Follet, Pérez Reverte or Mendoza, to quote only a few. In other cases we have had to quote several works of the same author because we believe that all are essential. And no more preambles, there it goes. We will gradually add reviews of each book, although not too much in the argument or in detail, because each of these works deserve to be read and enjoyed from beginning to end:
